REVIEW: TEA TOURIST AUGUST BOX

You know what time it is, its time for an over a month late Tea Tourist post! Augusts box was a very interesting box, it was comprised mostly by teas that I wouldn't try out of choice, which is why I love Tea Tourist so much, it enables me to really leave my flavour comfort zone and open the door to find a potential new favourite tea! The teas this month (aside from the chai - that was anything but), I thought was really simple, no frills or fancy ingredients, just good teas. I think this was mostly down to half the box being straight teas, but I thought that even the floral and blackberry blend we're very simple in their own way, though they both had interesting qualities, the overall idea of the blend was very to the point. Here is how I felt about all of August's teas in a little more detail!OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERACamomile, Fennel & Rose Petals - Edgcumnes Tea & CoffeeI'm sure that you've realised by now that floral teas aren't my thing, so it's no shock that I didn't like this blend. I'm not a fan of chamomile really, though I have managed to find a couple of chamomile blends that I like, I still find it hard to handle the taste and in this blend, the chamomile was definitely the dominating flavour. The blend of ingredients is a simple & soothing blend, it is very naturally sweet, almost honey like.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAJiu Jiu Jiu Guan Yin - Wan Ling Tea House I am still yet to really venture into the world of oolongs, and honestly, I don't know why. I drink a lot of snazzy flavoured teas and I sometimes almost forget that straight teas also exist, yet I've enjoyed most of the straight teas that I try. This oolong wasn't an exception to this, I was shocked at how fragrant and sweet this tea was, I expected to get a very fresh flavour from this, which I did get, but the overall depth really surprised me.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAJapanese Sencha - The Tea Makers Of LondonI was so shocked by who full of flavour this sencha is, similar to the oolong, I just didn't expect such a depth of flavour from a straight tea. The taste is initially what you expect from a sencha, its fresh and grass, it tastes very green (something can taste green, right?), I find it to be really sweet, when brewed I can really liken the scent to walking through a flowery garden first thing on a summers morning, a real mix of the fresh morning dew and fragrant, almost sweet flowers.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERABlueberry Rooibos - Shibui Leaf Tea This was my favourite out of this box, to me it tasted like a freshly baked blueberry muffin (aka heaven). It's naturally sweet from the rooibos which to me gives it that cakey taste, the blueberry is obviously the most prominent flavour but I feel like it works hand in hand with the rooibos base. I'm not sure what the rose petals add to the blend but that's fine by me, I didn't get much flavour from them at all but I'm not complaining as I don't like rose!OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAGreen Cardamom Chai - Ichai TeaMy oh my, this is a strange chai. It's very traditional and exactly what I would expect from a chai but at the same time its TOTALLY DIFFERENT, I've never tried a chai which is so strong on the cardamom, it's like a punch in the face! I bloody loved this, I actually prefer it black which is odd as I normally like my chai either as a latte or brewed in milk, but I feel that the flavours in this are so bold that I almost don't want to mask them with the milk. When brewing this tea up you could easily close your eyes and be whisked away to a spice market in the middle of India, it really is something else.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIndonesian Green Pearls - Baraka TeasI really love that this box has showcased how different green tea can taste, we've gone from the very delicate and sweet sencha to a very punchy and slightly fruity green. I think I prefer this to the sencha because of its almost citrus-y undertones, Its definetly a tea that I can see myself enjoying a little bit more when the summer months come back around again.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERARemember to use code AMYLEE30 to get 30% off your first Tea Tourist box! Thanks for reading X
